On Wednesday, 20 May, I will host the roundtable “The Future of CO₂ Standards for Vehicles: Cross-Institutional Insights”, from 12:30 to 13:45 in Chapsal, 27 rue Saint-Guillaume.
The event will bring together representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council of the European Union for a cross-institutional discussion on the upcoming negotiations concerning the proposed amendment to Regulation (EU) 2019/631 on CO₂ emission performance standards for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
The roundtable aims to create a space for constructive dialogue beyond the formal trilogue setting. While institutional negotiations are often highly technical and politically tense, durable compromises also require a broader understanding of each institution’s priorities, concerns, and constraints.
The discussion will address the future of CO₂ standards for vehicles, with particular attention to climate ambition, industrial competitiveness, technological neutrality, European supply chains, and the need for a transition that is both economically realistic and socially sustainable.
