Brisset Mina, a delegate representing Belgium at the Council of the European Union, supports the European Commission’s proposals on the automotive transition. She particularly advocates for a gradual electrification through corporate vehicle fleets and believes that negotiations between Member States, structured around several blocs, should ultimately lead to a compromise. In this context, countries such as Belgium and Germany could play a mediating role, helping reconcile climate ambition with industrial constraints.

Bulgaria states that it supports the European Union’s climate objectives while advocating for a gradual implementation of policies in order to preserve industrial competitiveness, employment and consumers’ purchasing power. The press statement issued after the COREPER meeting also highlights Sofia’s willingness to continue the dialogue with the Commission and other Member States to ensure that the proposals take national realities into account.

A Green MEP, Gabriel HAUTDIDIER, is pushing to preserve the Commission’s proposal on corporate fleets, arguing that it must remain ambitious to secure Europe’s industrial future and avoid long-term dependency on foreign supply chains.

Ahead of the simulation on CO₂ standards, Bianca Pinto, Renew coordinator, confirmed her group’s support for the Commission’s proposal while announcing amendments—particularly to clarify the “Made in EU” clause—positioning Renew as a centrist force open to compromise without predefined alliances and advocating a “pragmatic” balance between ambitious climate targets and industrial competitiveness.
